Newport Way

Sidewalk

Take Action!

1. Sign the Online Petition

This is the quickest and easiest action you can take to show your support to the City Council.  Click this link and sign the petition: Prioritize Construction of the Newport Way Sidewalk

Then forward it to friends and post on your social networks!

2.  E-mail City Council and Transportation Commission

Personalized emails have a tremendous amount of impact. Please send an email to council@bellevuewa.gov, stating why you value a sidewalk/bike trail on Newport Way. Also, cc these emails: kmcdonald@bellevuewa.gov and newportwaysidewalk@gmail.com.  These are the emails of the Bellevue Transportation Commission and the Sidewalk Committee.

If you'd like some ideas of what to write, please click here.

3.  Get On the Mailing list

To stay up to date on the latest news, check back regularly or get on our mailing list.  Just send us a note to newportwaysidewalk@gmail.com and we'll get you on the mailing list.

4.  Spread the Word

Tell others in your neighborhood, schools, library, and rec center about this project and point them to this web site.  Post info and website links to your social networks.  Check the Resources page for information and printable signs, QR Code, etc.

5.  Attend a City Council or Transportation Commission Meeting.

  • City Council meets the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.  Oral comments start at 8:00pm and last around 30 minutes.  You don’t need to speak, we will provide a Newport Way Sidewalk sign to hold up.  We also have printed shirts you can wear.  Or wear your own green shirt so they recognize our group.  We will try to have a designated speaker for the 3 minute allotment.  Council allows 3 speakers on each topic so if you want to speak, let us know.
  • The Transportation Commission meets on the second Thursday of each month starting at 6:30pm.
  • All meetings are at City Hall, located at 450 110th Avenue NE in downtown Bellevue.  We want to have people at every meeting, starting with City Council on Monday March 3rd.   Bring a neighbor.
  • Please let us know if you can come so we can be sure we are always represented. To let us know when you can come, or if you have any questions, email us at newportwaysidewalk@gmail.com

6.  Gather Signatures.

In addition to the online petition, we also have a printable petition, which you can use to gather signatures around your neighborhood, school, or church.  Mail the completed petitions to us or drop off at the Newport Way Library.  Info on the Contact page.

7.  Endorse the project.   If you are a member of an organization, an official endorsement from your organization would really help show support for the project.  Here is a list of endorsing organizations.
